‘imo’ Debuts All-New ‘imoPay’ in Jordan in Partnership with ‘UWallet’

imo, the world’s leading instant messaging (IM) software, has partnered with UWallet, an innovative payment service provider by Umniah, to launch imoPay, a brand-new mobile payment product in Jordan. This service will merge social networking with eWallets and online payment methods.

Emerging as the first IM-based mobile payment solution provider in the Kingdom, imoPay strives to enrich social connections between families and friends by offering a broad array of convenient, inclusive, and secure features, as all transactions must be verified both through UWallet and the imo platform. With just a few clicks on the app, users can now conduct real-time, peer-to-peer fund transfers quickly and easily.

The service has been in effect as of 22 November 2022, under the slogan ‘Beyond a Safer Way to Pay’. A signing ceremony was held to commemorate the occasion on November 14, 2022, in the presence of imo Vice President Jackson Lau and UWallet CEO Dr. Alaa Ensheiwat.

Facilitating digital payments was an organic next step in imo’s evolution, while leveraging the app’s widespread presence on smartphones, ease of access, and user familiarity. While tech-savvy and higher-income users are likely acquainted with digital payments and transfers, imoPay seeks to involve the unbanked or financially underserved or excluded – particularly low-income individuals, women, youth, and people residing in remote areas – to bolster their financial inclusion.

ImoPay, a game-changer within the mobile payment sector, was globally introduced in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which drove a notable increase in Jordanians’ awareness, adoption, and usage of digital payments, money transfers, and e-wallets. Previous government decisions, most notably the Central Bank of Jordan’s emphasis on digital financial services in its National Financial Inclusion Strategy, also facilitated in the rapid adoption and transition to a cashless society (2018-2020). It was also served by the bank’s establishment of Jordan Payments and Clearing Company, a domestic payment system operator deploying innovative digital financial solutions and promoting digital financial services in the Kingdom.
“We’re delighted to be tapping into Jordan’s vast fintech market potential to introduce imoPay. Beyond pioneering the mobile payment sector, imoPay aims to realize a social benefit by granting users from various backgrounds and locations equal access to safe, flexible, and simple financial solutions that make their lives easier and allow them to keep pace with the demands of the smart digital lifestyle. We look forward to receiving feedback on this progressive solution and to deploying additional features of significant added value to users in Jordan and soon across the world,” commented imo Spokesperson, Khaldun Mahmoud.

For his part, UWallet CEO, Dr. Alaa Ensheiwat said “We hope that this innovative combination of social networking and eWallet technology proves to elevate user’s digital experience, providing them with a safe and secure means of online payment. UWallet has always strived to revolutionize the market, and we are confident that this partnership with imo will serve this purpose.”
